How to Draw a Markhor

16 steps · Tricky · about 12 min

Draw a markhor in 16 steps, about 12 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big soft head

Left of the middle, halfway down, draw a big egg head, wide at the top and narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave lots of room above it for the tall horns.

  2. Step 2: Leaf ears

On each side of the head, near the top, draw a leaf ear pointing out. Add a small leaf inside.

  3. Step 3: Big eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and smile

Under the left eye draw an oval snout. Add a triangle nose. From it, draw down into a w smile.

Tip Colour the nose black. Rub out the head line inside the snout.

  5. Step 5: Tall wavy horns

From the top of the head draw 2 very tall horns. Wiggle each side up to a sharp point.

Tip The horns lean apart like a V and are taller than the head.

  6. Step 6: Twist lines

Across each horn draw 4 slanted lines, from one edge to the other, like a screw.

  7. Step 7: Long beard

Under the snout draw a long pointed beard hanging down, like a carrot.

  8. Step 8: Long back

Start on the head, below the right ear. Draw a level back, curl round the bottom and stop.

Tip The line dips a little at the neck, then runs almost flat.

  9. Step 9: Front leg

Draw a ground line. From the head draw a round chest, then a leg down to the ground and up.

Tip The leg gets thinner below the chest.

  10. Step 10: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh, a thin leg down and up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg bends backwards halfway down.

  11. Step 11: Far legs

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out, between the front leg and the back leg.

Tip All 4 feet stand on the ground line.

  12. Step 12: Little tail

On top of the bottom draw a short tail pointing up, like a small leaf.

  13. Step 13: Hooves

Draw a line across the bottom of each leg for a hoof. Split the 2 bigger hooves in half.

  14. Step 14: Cream and peach

Colour the snout and beard cream and the inside of each ear peach.

  15. Step 15: Colour it grey

Colour the markhor light grey, around the snout and ear middles. Leave the eyes, horns and hooves white.

  16. Step 16: Horns and hooves

Colour the 2 horns brown and the 4 hooves dark grey.
