How to Draw a Cockroach
Draw a cockroach in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Above the middle of your paper draw an egg lying on its side for the head.
Step 2: Two long feelers
Start on top of the head. Draw 2 long thin feelers arching up and out to the sides.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw an open smile: a flat line with a wide U under it. Add 2 round cheeks.
Step 5: The long shell
From the chin draw a long oval hanging down for the shell, about as wide as the head.
Step 6: Shell lines
Under the head draw a U across the shell for the shield. Add a line from it to the bottom.
Step 7: Front legs
Start under the U on each side. Draw a leg up and out, then down to a small pointed foot.
Tip Each leg is fat where it leaves the shell and thin at the foot.
Step 8: Middle legs
A thumb lower on each side, draw a leg straight out, then bend it down to a pointed foot.
Step 9: Back legs
Low on each side, draw a leg down and out, then bend it down to a pointed foot. 6 legs!
Step 10: Two tail spikes
Under the bottom of the shell draw 2 short thin spikes pointing down and out, like tiny carrots.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Ginger shell, brown head
Colour the shell ginger. Colour the head, 6 legs and tail spikes brown, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth.
