How to Draw a Mandolin
Draw a mandolin in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: teardrop body.
Step 1: Teardrop body
Low on your paper draw a big teardrop standing up: narrow rounded top, fat round bottom.
Tip A mandolin body is shaped like a big teardrop or a pear.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the fat lower part draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a white shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile. Add a small flat oval cheek beside each end.
Step 4: The neck
Draw a long thin box for the neck, starting high on the body and going straight up past the top.
Tip Rub out the body line inside the neck, so the neck lies on top of the body.
Step 5: Scroll head
On the neck draw a small head curling over like a snail shell. Add 2 tiny pegs each side.
Step 6: Sound hole
Over the end of the neck draw an oval sound hole, a bit wider than the neck.
Step 7: Strings and frets
Draw 3 string lines from the head down to the sound hole. Add 3 short lines across the neck.
Step 8: Music notes
Draw 3 music notes in the air around the mandolin.
Step 9: The table
Draw a long table line under the body, starting left of the mandolin and stopping on its right.
Step 10: Orange body, pink cheeks
Colour the body orange, going around the neck and hole, and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Brown neck and head
Colour the neck and the head brown, down to the sound hole.
Step 12: Black hole and notes
Colour the sound hole and the note heads black. Go over your lines, and your mandolin is ready to play!
