How to Draw a Mahi-Mahi
Draw a mahi-mahi in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: forehead and wedge body.
Step 1: Forehead and wedge body
From the right draw the back up to a forehead, down the front, and the tummy back to the start.
Tip A tall wall forehead and a long wedge body. Leave the right end open.
Step 2: Eye and mouth
Near the front draw one big round eye with a dot and shine. From the dent draw a mouth line.
Step 3: Forked tail
From the back's end draw a point up, scoop in to a dent, then a point down to the tummy.
Tip Two long sharp points with a deep dent between. Add 2 rays.
Step 4: Fin along the back
Start behind the forehead. Draw one long fin along the back, high at the front, ending low before the tail.
Tip Like a sail laid along the back: the mahi-mahi's signature. Add 3 rays.
Step 5: Gill
A little behind the eye draw one short C bowing towards the tail, between the back and the belly.
Step 6: Side fin
Start on the gill by the eye. Draw a leaf fin pointing down and back, ending lower on the gill.
Step 7: Tummy fin
Start on the tummy behind the gill. Draw one long low fin sliding down and back, ending on the tummy.
Tip Rub out the tummy line across the fin's root so the fin grows out of the body.
Step 8: Side line and spots
From the mouth's end draw a long gentle line back to the tail. Add 5 spots above it.
Tip The line splits the green back from the yellow tummy.
Step 9: Bubbles
Above the forehead draw 3 bubbles floating up, each bigger than the last.
Step 10: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom, edge to edge. Stand tall wiggly seaweed leaves on it.
Step 11: Yellow tummy, sandy floor
Colour the tummy under the side line yellow, and the floor under the sand line sandy. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Blue spots, teal fins
Colour the spots and bubbles light blue. Colour the back fin, the tail and the other fins teal.
Step 13: Green back and seaweed
Colour the back green around the spots and side fin, and the seaweed green. Your mahi-mahi is done!
