How to Draw a Lyre
Draw a lyre in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the sound box.
Step 1: The sound box
Low on your paper draw a rounded box, wider than it is tall, for the bottom of the lyre.
Tip The 2 curved arms will grow up out of it.
Step 2: 2 big eyes
On the box draw 2 big egg eyes one eye apart. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile, and a small flat oval cheek beside each end of the smile.
Step 4: The left arm
From the box's top left draw 2 lines curving up like a big C. Join them with a round tip.
Step 5: The right arm
From the box's top right draw 2 lines curving up like a backwards C. Join them with a round tip.
Step 6: The crossbar
Between the 2 arms, near the top, draw a flat bar from the left arm to the right arm.
Step 7: Strings
From the bar draw 5 straight lines down to the box, closer together at the bottom.
Step 8: Notes and sparkles
Draw a music note in the air on each side, and 2 little sparkles lower down.
Step 9: Shadow and table
Draw a flat oval shadow round the box's bottom. Add a table line out from each side of it.
Step 10: Pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the 2 cheeks pink.
Step 11: Gold lyre
Colour the box, the arms and the bar yellow like gold, around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Grey shadow, black notes
Colour the shadow grey and the 2 note heads black, and your lyre is ready to strum!
