How to Draw a Lunar Rover

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a lunar rover in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: flat deck.

Print

  1. Step 1: Flat deck

A little below the middle of your paper, draw 1 long thin slab across most of the page.

Tip No body, no roof: a moon buggy is just a flat deck on wheels.

  2. Step 2: Two big wheels

Under each deck end, draw a fat wheel with 2 circles inside and a strut down to its middle.

Tip Draw the struts first, then stop your circles at their sides.

  3. Step 3: Headlight eye

Draw a tall box on the front of the deck. On it, draw a big headlight eye with a pupil.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheek

Under the eye, draw a U smile from left to right. Add an oval cheek beside it, inside the box.

  5. Step 5: Seat box

Behind the console, start on the deck. Draw a low cushion, then a tall seat back, down to the deck.

Tip The seat back is taller than the console.

  6. Step 6: Dish on a pole

Near the back, draw a block. From it, draw a tall pole up to a circle, through a flat-topped bowl.

  7. Step 7: Flag on a pole

Between the console and seat, draw another block. From it, draw a thin pole up to a small striped flag.

  8. Step 8: Spokes

In each wheel, draw a spoke from the hub down to the rim, and a flat spoke across.

  9. Step 9: Stars

Draw 3 little 5-point stars in the sky: 1 high on the left and 2 on the right.

Tip Draw a star in one go: up, down, across, up, down.

  10. Step 10: Moon ground and craters

From the left edge, draw a bumpy ground line under the tyres, across to the right edge. Add 3 craters.

  11. Step 11: Yellow seat, red flag

Go over your lines. Colour the seat, dish, stars and headlight yellow, around the pupil. Colour the flag red.

  12. Step 12: Grey rover, pink cheek

Colour the cheek pink, then colour the deck, the console around the eye and cheek, and the struts grey.

  13. Step 13: Black tyres, dark bits

Colour the tyres black around the struts, and the hubs and base blocks dark grey. Leave the middles white.
