How to Draw a Dog Sled
Draw a dog sled in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.
Step 1: Big soft head
On the left, draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round cheeks and a flat top.
Tip Leave room on the right for the body and the sled.
Step 2: Pointed ears
On each top corner of the head draw a tall pointed ear. The left ear is a little smaller.
Step 3: Big eyes
On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.
Step 4: Snout and smile
Under the left eye draw a snout poking past the head. From under its black nose, draw a small w.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.
Step 5: Long back
Start on the head, level with the eyes. Draw a long back, curl round the bottom, stop below chin level.
Tip The line dips down the neck, then runs almost flat.
Step 6: Front leg
Draw a snow line. From under the chin, draw a leg down to a plump paw, then back up.
Tip The leg leans forward and gets thinner near the paw.
Step 7: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a paw and up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg bends just above the paw.
Step 8: Far legs
Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out: one leaning back, one leaning forward.
Tip Only part of each far leg shows. All 4 paws sit on the snow.
Step 9: Curly tail
Start on top of the bottom. Draw a fat bushy tail curling up and forward over the back.
Tip A sled dog carries its tail in a curl.
Step 10: Runner and bed
Behind the dog draw a long runner on the snow, curling up at the front. Add a flat bed above.
Tip The curl is one smooth bend, like the tip of a ski.
Step 11: Posts and handle
Join bed and runner with 2 posts. Draw a tall handle up from the back and a rail sloping forward.
Step 12: Harness and line
Draw 2 lines down the dog's side for a harness. From it draw a line back to the sled.
Tip Rub out the dog's bottom line inside the line.
Step 13: Cream and brown
Colour the snout cream. Colour the sled's bed, handle and rail wood brown.
Step 14: Grey dog, red harness
Colour the dog grey, around the snout. Colour the harness, the line, the runner and the posts red.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
