How to Draw a Lizard
Draw a lizard in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left, draw a rounded wedge head lying on its side: snout at the front, round at the back.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the body and long tail.
Step 2: The big eye
In the front half of the head, draw one big circle eye with a big black dot and white shine.
Step 3: Grin and nostril
From the snout tip, draw a grin along the jaw, curling up to stop under the eye. Dot a nostril.
Step 4: Egg body
From behind the head, draw a slim sideways egg body: a low hump, a small round bottom, a sagging tummy.
Step 5: Two bent legs
From the tummy, draw 2 bent legs, one under the chest and one under the bottom, ending at the ankles.
Tip Leave the ankle open at the bottom: the foot will close it.
Step 6: Three-toed feet
From each ankle, draw a flat foot pointing forward with 3 toe bumps, and stop back at the ankle.
Step 7: The branch
Under the feet, draw a thin wavy branch, cut end on the left, round tip on the right.
Tip The top line hides behind the feet; the bottom line runs under them.
Step 8: Long straight tail
From the bottom, sweep a long tail down past the branch end to a point, thinner all the way.
Tip A lizard tail is as long as the whole body.
Step 9: Three round spots
Draw 3 round spots along the body: one behind the head, one in the middle, one near the bottom.
Step 10: Colour it green
Go over your lines, then colour the head, body, legs, feet and tail green, leaving the eye white.
Step 11: Wood branch
Colour the branch with a wood-brown crayon.
Step 12: Yellow spots, light tummy
Colour the 3 spots yellow. Then colour the tummy with a lighter leaf-green crayon.
