How to Draw a Light Bulb

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a light bulb in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round glass.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round glass

Near the top draw a big round balloon, open at the bottom. Start on the left, swing over, stop right.

Tip The balloon is most of the whole light bulb. Make it big.

  2. Step 2: Neck

From each bottom end of the balloon draw a short curve leaning in, then join them with a flat line.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Below the middle of the balloon draw 2 big round eyes close together, with black dots.

  4. Step 4: Open smile and tongue

From eye to eye draw a line, a U to meet it. Add a pink tongue, colour red around it.

  5. Step 5: Rosy cheeks

Beside each end of the smile draw a small oval cheek and colour it pink.

  6. Step 6: Collar

Under the neck draw a little smiling band that sticks out past the neck on both sides.

  7. Step 7: Screw base

From the band's left corner draw down, round the bottom, up to the right corner. Add 2 lines across.

  8. Step 8: Tip

Under the middle of the base, start on the bottom line. Dip down like a small U and stop.

  9. Step 9: Glass shine

Inside the glass on the upper left draw one thick curved dash, following the edge.

  10. Step 10: Glow rays

Over the top of the glass draw 5 short rays pointing out like sun rays.

  11. Step 11: Yellow glass

Colour the glass yellow around the mouth and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Grey base

Colour the band, the screw base and the tip grey.
