How to Draw a Griffin Flying
Draw a griffin flying in 16 steps, about 12 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, draw a big round head with a smooth dome on top.
Step 2: Hooked beak
From the front of the head, draw a hooked beak down to a sharp point and back. Add a smile.
Tip The smile starts under the hook and curls up to the head.
Step 3: Big round eye
Draw a big round eye with a black dot and a shine. Leave the eye white.
Step 4: Ear tufts
From the top of the head, draw 2 leaf-shaped feather tufts sweeping backwards.
Step 5: Lion body
From behind the head, draw a long bean body round the back end and tummy. Stop under the head.
Step 6: Feather ruff
Start on the back near the head. Draw 3 soft round bumps down across the body to the tummy.
Tip The front is feathery like an eagle, the back is furry like a lion.
Step 7: Near wing
From the back, draw a big wing up to a point. Come back down with 5 round feathers.
Step 8: Far wing
Behind the big wing, draw the other wing peeking out, from the back up to a point.
Tip Only its front edge and tip show.
Step 9: Feather lines
Draw 2 short feather lines into the big wing, each starting between two round feathers.
Step 10: Front leg
Under the feathery chest, draw a front leg folded back to a round paw. Add 2 toe lines.
Step 11: Back leg
Under the back end, draw a back leg stretching back to a round paw. Add 2 toe lines.
Step 12: Lion tail
From the top of the back end, draw a thin tail sweeping back to a fat teardrop tuft.
Tip A lion's tail is thin, with a tuft like a paintbrush.
Step 13: Little cloud
Under the griffin, draw a small cloud with 3 round puffs and a flat bottom.
Step 14: White head, yellow beak
Leave the head, feathery chest, eye and cloud white. Colour the beak yellow.
Step 15: Tan lion body
Colour the lion body, legs and tail tan, around the white feathery chest.
Step 16: Brown wings and tufts
Colour both wings, the ear tufts and the tail tuft brown.
