How to Draw a Lamp
Draw a lamp in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the shade.
Step 1: The shade
Near the top draw a shade: a round top, 2 slanting sides and a smile bottom.
Tip The shade's bottom is as wide as your spread hand.
Step 2: Knob and band
Put a knob on top and a cup under the rim. Draw a band from left across to right.
Tip The band sits a finger above the rim.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the shade draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a big black dot in each, with a white shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile. Add a round cheek under the outside corner of each eye.
Step 5: The vase
From the socket draw a vase: a short neck, a round belly, and a waist. Stop on a flat oval.
Tip The belly is twice as wide as the waist.
Step 6: Bead ring
From each end of the oval, draw a tiny wall down to a smile underneath. That's the bead ring.
Step 7: Trumpet base
From the ring draw 2 short lines down. Sweep out like a trumpet and join the ends with a smile.
Step 8: Flat foot
From each end of the trumpet draw a short line down and out. Join them with a straight line.
Step 9: Pull chain
From the right side of the socket draw a short line down to 2 tiny beads and a little ball.
Step 10: The table
From each bottom corner of the foot, draw a straight table line out to the side, a hand long.
Step 11: Brass and red
Colour the shade, knob, socket, chain and bead ring yellow. Colour the band red. Keep the eyes and cheeks white.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, blue vase
Dab the cheeks pink. Colour the vase, the trumpet base and the foot blue. Then go over your lines.
