How to Draw a Lacewing
Draw a lacewing in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
A bit above the middle draw a big soft egg for the head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room on both sides for the wings.
Step 2: Two huge eyes
Across the middle draw 2 big round eyes almost touching. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a white speck.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a small round cheek below each eye, not touching it.
Step 4: Two long feelers
From the head draw a very long thin feeler out to each top corner, ending in a tiny ball.
Tip Lacewing feelers are as long as the body, thin as hairs.
Step 5: Short soft body
Under the head draw a small round chest, then a short soft body down to a rounded tip.
Tip Keep the body short. The wings will reach past its tip.
Step 6: Tail rings
Across the tail draw 3 little smile lines, a thumb apart, from the left edge to the right edge.
Step 7: Top wings
From the chest draw a big rounded wing leaning up and out, back to the body. Do both sides.
Tip Lacewing wings are wide and rounded, like leaves.
Step 8: Bottom wings
Under each top wing draw a rounded wing leaning down and out, past the tail tip, back to the body.
Step 9: Lace veins
Down the middle of each wing draw one long vein. Add 3 shorter veins across each wing, like a net.
Tip A few light veins are enough.
Step 10: Gold eyes, pink cheeks
Colour the big eyes gold yellow and the round cheeks pink. Keep the white specks in the eyes.
Step 11: Green wings and body
Colour the 4 wings lightly green. Colour the head and body leaf green, around the eyes. Your lacewing is done!
