How to Draw a Kansas Map
Draw a kansas map in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long top.
Step 1: The long top
Start near the top left. Draw a long straight line to the right. Stop before the edge of your paper.
Tip Kansas is a wide box, about twice as wide as it is tall.
Step 2: The river corner
Carry on from there. Wiggle a short line down to the right, like a snake. Stop soon.
Tip A big river, the Missouri, nibbles this corner off the box.
Step 3: The right side
Carry on from the wiggle. Draw a straight line down. Stop when the box is half as tall as wide.
Step 4: The long bottom
Carry on from there. Draw a long straight line to the left. Stop under the start of your top line.
Step 5: Close the box
Carry on from there. Draw a straight line up. Join the start of your top line.
Step 6: The capital star
Near the right side, below the wiggly corner, draw a star for the capital city, Topeka.
Step 7: A sunflower middle
Left of the middle of the map, draw a small circle. It is the middle of a sunflower.
Tip Kansas is called the Sunflower State.
Step 8: Sunflower petals
Draw 8 petals all the way round the small circle, each one starting and ending on it.
Step 9: Yellow petals
Go over your lines. Colour the 8 petals yellow. Leave the small circle white for now.
Step 10: Green land
Colour all the land green, around the star and the sunflower.
Step 11: Brown and red
Colour the middle of the sunflower brown and the star red. Your map of Kansas is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a kansas map, drawn by you.
