How to Draw a Japan Map
Draw a japan map in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long island.
Step 1: The long island
Start low on the left. Draw a bumpy line up to the right. Stop at a little point sticking up.
Tip Japan's biggest island is long and thin, like a banana.
Step 2: Up to the top
Carry on from the point. Dip down, then draw a bumpy line up to the top of the island.
Step 3: Down the right side
From the top, draw the right coast down, bending left. Stop at a corner that points down.
Step 4: Close the island
From that corner, draw a bumpy line back to the left. Stop where your first line began.
Tip The big bump underneath is like the banana's belly.
Step 5: The top island
Above the long island, draw a big island like a kite with a tail hooking down. Leave a gap.
Tip Leave a little sea between the islands so they do not touch.
Step 6: The small island
Under the left half of the long island, draw a small island like a bean lying down.
Step 7: The left island
Just off the left end, draw a taller island like a mitten pointing down.
Tip Now you have all 4 main islands of Japan.
Step 8: The capital
On the long island, near the corner that points down, draw a small circle for Tokyo, the capital.
Step 9: Blue sea
Go over your lines. Colour the sea light blue, all around the 4 islands, out to the edges.
Tip Leave the islands white for now.
Step 10: Green land
Colour all 4 islands green, around the little circle.
Step 11: Red capital
Colour the little circle red for Tokyo. Your map of Japan is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a japan map, drawn by you.
