How to Draw a Jack in the Box

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a jack in the box in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the spring and the box.

  2. Step 2: The face

Below the middle of the head draw 2 oval eyes with black dots, a tiny nose and a big smile.

  3. Step 3: Jester hat

Draw a cap above the eyes. Grow 3 floppy points out of it, with a bell on each tip.

Tip The 2 side points droop down like bananas.

  4. Step 4: Ruffle collar

Under the chin draw a ruffle collar: a wavy line on top and 5 fat bumps along the bottom.

Tip The collar is a little wider than the head.

  5. Step 5: Zigzag spring

Start under the middle of the collar. Zigzag down 5 times and finish back under the middle.

Tip Make every zig the same size.

  6. Step 6: The box

Under the spring draw a big square box. The spring ends in the middle of its top edge.

  7. Step 7: Open lid

From the top left corner of the box draw a flat lid, leaning up and out to the left.

Tip Make the lid about as long as the box is wide.

  8. Step 8: Star and handle

Draw a big star on the box front. On the right side add a bent handle with a ball.

  9. Step 9: Ground line

Draw a long flat ground line under the box, from the left side to the right side.

  10. Step 10: Peach face

Colour the cheeks pink, then the face peach around them. Leave the eyes and the collar white.

  11. Step 11: Yellow parts

Colour the 2 side points, the 3 bells, the star and the handle ball yellow.

  12. Step 12: Blue cap and lid

Colour the cap, the middle point and the open lid blue.

  13. Step 13: Red box

Colour the box red, around the star. Your jack in the box is done!

Tip The spring stays as a black line.
