How to Draw an Isthmus
Draw an isthmus in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first land.
Step 1: The first land
Start just above the middle. Draw a big blob up and round the top left. Stop near your start.
Tip Leave a small gap between your start and your stop. The strip joins on there.
Step 2: The narrow strip
Start at each end of the gap. Draw a short line down. Stop a finger below.
Tip This narrow strip of land is the isthmus.
Step 3: The second land
Start at the left line. Draw another big blob down and round to the right. Stop at the right line.
Step 4: The beach
Draw a second line just inside the coast, all the way round both lands and along the strip.
Step 5: Three trees
On the top land draw 3 trees: a short trunk with a round lumpy top each.
Step 6: Mountains
On the bottom land draw 3 triangle mountains in a row, each a bit higher.
Step 7: Waves
In the sea on each side of the strip draw 2 short wavy lines, not touching the land.
Step 8: Sandy beach
Colour the thin beach strip sandy yellow, all the way round.
Step 9: Green land
Colour both lands and the narrow strip leaf green, going around the trees and mountains.
Step 10: Blue sea
Colour the sea blue all around the land, out to the edges.
Step 11: Dark green trees
Colour the 3 lumpy tree tops dark green.
Step 12: Brown to finish
Colour the 3 trunks and the 3 mountains brown. Go over your lines and your isthmus is done!
