How to Draw a Dog

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big oval head.

Step 1: Big oval head
Near the top, draw a big oval a little wider than tall. It is almost half the whole puppy.
Tip Leave room underneath for the body and legs.
Step 2: Floppy ears
From the top of the head, draw a fat ear down past the cheek and back up inside the head.
Tip Do both ears. Rub out the head line inside each ear.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Across the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes with a gap between. Add black dots and white shines.
Step 4: Snout and nose
Under the eyes, draw a wide oval for the snout. Sit a black triangle nose on top of it.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose, draw a short line down into a little w smile. Hang a U tongue from the middle.
Tip Rub out the line inside the tongue.
Step 6: Round body
Start where each ear meets the cheek. Draw a big C down each side. Join them with a saggy line.
Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.
Step 7: Collar and tag
Start under the chin. Draw 2 saggy curves across to the other side of the body. Hang a circle tag.
Step 8: Front legs
Start under the collar. Draw a leg that narrows, a round paw, then back up to the tag.
Tip Do both, with 2 toes each. Rub out the body line inside the legs.
Step 9: Back paws and tail
Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner. From the right side, draw a fat tail up to a tip.
Tip Add 2 toes to each paw. Rub out the body line inside them.
Step 10: Tuft, patch and ground
Draw 3 round fur bumps on top of the head and a patch round the right eye. Add the ground.
Step 11: Colour the fur tan
Colour the head, body, legs, tail and tuft with a tan crayon. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Brown ears and patch
Colour the 2 floppy ears and the eye patch brown.
Step 13: Pink tongue, red collar
Colour the tongue pink and the collar red.
