How to Draw a Honeycomb

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a honeycomb in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big hexagon.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big hexagon

In the middle of your paper draw a big 6-sided shape as wide as your hand: flat top, pointed sides.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the middle of the hexagon draw 2 big egg eyes an eye apart. Fill most of each with black.

  3. Step 3: A happy smile

Under the eyes draw a small U smile, starting under one eye and stopping under the other.

  4. Step 4: Round cheeks

Beside each end of the smile draw a small flat oval cheek.

  5. Step 5: Three cells on top

Above the eyes draw 3 little 6-sided cells in a row, each as big as a fingertip.

  6. Step 6: Three cells below

Under the smile draw 3 more little 6-sided cells in a row, the same size.

  7. Step 7: Side cells

Beside each cheek, near the pointed side of the hexagon, draw one more 6-sided cell.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a ground line under the flat bottom from well left to well right, passing behind the hexagon.

  9. Step 9: Yellow honeycomb

Go over your lines, then colour the hexagon yellow around the cells and cheeks, leaving the eyes white.

  10. Step 10: Pink cheeks

Colour the 2 round cheeks pink.

  11. Step 11: Orange cells

Colour all 8 little cells orange, and your honeycomb is done!
