How to Draw a Hobby Horse

Step 1: The head

In the middle of your paper draw a long face like a tall egg, pointy end down.

Tip Widest at the eyes, narrowing to the chin. Leave room for ears and neck.

Step 2: Big nose and smile

Across the bottom of the face draw a big sideways oval nose. Add 2 black nostrils and a U smile.

Tip A big soft nose with 2 leaning nostrils is what says horse.

Step 3: Two tall leaf ears

On each top corner of the head draw a tall leaf ear leaning out. Draw a thinner leaf inside each.

Tip Horse ears are tall and wide at the bottom, like 2 leaves leaning apart.

Step 4: The forelock

From the left ear draw a rainbow over the head to the right ear, then 3 floppy points back.

Tip The hair sits on top of the head, poking above the head line.

Step 5: Eyes and blaze

Draw 2 big egg eyes with black dots. From the hair draw a stripe down between them to the nose.

Step 6: The neck

Start on the left cheek. Draw the neck down, round a big U chest, back up to the right cheek.

Tip The neck is a little narrower than the face and tucks behind it.

Step 7: The mane

From behind the right ear draw a wavy mane down beside the face, curling in to stop on the neck.

Step 8: The stick and wheel

From the neck draw 2 stick lines down, stopping near the bottom. Add a round wheel and a ground line.

Step 9: Collar and bow

Draw a collar band across the bottom of the neck. Add a knot with a fat loop each side.

Step 10: Cream nose, pink ears

Colour the nose and the blaze cream, and the inside of each ear pink.

Step 11: Tan face and neck

Colour the face, ears and neck tan, around the cream, pink, hair and collar. Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Brown mane and stick

Colour the forelock, the mane and the stick dark brown.

Step 13: Red bow, grey wheel

Colour the collar and the bow red, and the wheel grey. Go over all your lines. Ready to ride!
