How to Draw a Hippogriff
Draw a hippogriff in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bean body.
Step 1: Bean body
In the middle, draw a big soft bean for the body, with a long back and a round bottom.
Tip Leave room at the top left for the head.
Step 2: Head and hooked beak
At the top left, draw a round head. On its front, draw a big beak that hooks down.
Step 3: Eye and smile
Draw a big eye with a black dot and shine. From the beak front, draw a smile into the cheek.
Step 4: Thick neck and ruff
Draw a thick neck from the head to the body. Add feather bumps from the back to the chest.
Tip Rub out the body line inside the neck.
Step 5: Eagle leg
Draw a ground line low down. From the belly under the chest, draw an eagle leg with 3 fat toes.
Step 6: Horse leg
Under the back end, draw a horse leg with a bend in it. Add a hoof with a line.
Step 7: Far legs
Add 2 far legs peeking out, one behind the eagle leg and one just before the horse leg.
Step 8: Big wing
From the shoulder, sweep a big wing up to a point, then 5 round feathers down to the back.
Step 9: Wing feathers
Inside the wing, draw 2 rows of feather bumps from the front edge across to the big feathers.
Step 10: Horse tail
From the top of the back end, draw a long tail down to a point. Add a hair line inside.
Step 11: White head, yellow feet
Go over your lines. Leave the head, neck and eye white. Colour the beak and eagle legs yellow.
Step 12: Tan horse body
Colour the body and horse legs tan, up to the feather ruff. Leave the hooves for later.
Step 13: Brown wing and tail
Colour the wing, the tail and the 2 hooves brown.
