How to Draw a Hexagonal Prism
Draw a hexagonal prism in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top half.
Step 1: Top half
Left of the middle, draw a flat top line. From each end, slant down and out. Stop halfway down.
Tip A hexagon has 6 sides, all the same length.
Step 2: Bottom half
From the end of each slant, slant back down and in. Join the 2 ends with a flat bottom line.
Tip The bottom line sits right under the top line.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the hexagon draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.
Tip Leave a small gap between the eyes.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Leave a gap under the eyes, then draw a wide U smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The top side
From each end of the top line, slant a short line up and right. Join them with a flat line.
Tip The back line is the same length as the top line in front of it.
Step 6: The upper right side
Start at the right back corner. Copy the hexagon's slant down and out, then join back to its side point.
Tip Keep every short slanted line the same length and the same slope.
Step 7: The lower right side
From there, copy the next slant down and in. Then slant a short line back to the bottom corner.
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw 2 sparkle stars on each side of the prism, one high and one low.
Step 9: Floor and shadow
Draw a thin flat oval shadow round the bottom of the prism. Add a floor line out from each end.
Step 10: Yellow sparkles and top
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 sparkles and the top side of the prism yellow.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, light side
Colour the 2 cheeks pink. Colour the upper right side light blue.
Step 12: Blue front
Colour the hexagon front blue, around the face. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Grey shadow, dark side
Colour the shadow grey and the lower right side dark blue. Your hexagonal prism is done!
Tip Light on top and dark underneath makes the prism look solid.
