How to Draw a Hay Bale
Draw a hay bale in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round end.
Step 1: The round end
A little left of the middle of your paper draw 1 big circle, about as wide as your hand.
Tip A round bale is like a giant swiss roll. We see its round end.
Step 2: The long side
From the top and bottom of the circle draw 2 long lines right. Join their ends with a C curve.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the round end draw 2 big egg eyes, close together. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end of the smile.
Step 5: The hay swirl
Start on the left edge and swirl round the face once and a bit, stopping near the top.
Tip Come in a little closer each time round, but keep away from the face.
Step 6: 3 twine bands
Across the long side draw 3 twine bands. Each is 2 close lines from top to bottom, bowing right.
Step 7: Ground line
Draw 1 ground line under the bale from well left to well right.
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw a sparkle star up on each side of the bale.
Step 9: Sandy hay
Go over your lines. Colour the bale sandy yellow, around the twine bands. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Brown twine, pink cheeks
Colour the twine bands brown and the cheeks pink. Your hay bale is ready for the harvest!
