How to Draw a Hand Puppet
Draw a hand puppet in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw a big round head, about as big as an orange.
Tip A hand puppet is a little cloth person that goes over your hand.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the head draw 2 round eyes side by side, each with a big black dot and a white shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small smile, and a tiny oval cheek on each side.
Step 4: Hair and pigtails
Start level with the left eye. Draw hair over the top, down to the right, then a fringe. Add pigtails.
Step 5: The collar
Start left of the chin. Draw 5 bumps across, stopping right of the chin. Add a line along the top.
Step 6: The glove body
From each end of the collar slant down and out like a bell, then across the bottom.
Tip The glove gets wider towards the bottom, where your wrist goes in.
Step 7: Mitten arms
On each side of the body draw a stubby mitten arm sticking out, with a thumb bump on top.
Step 8: Buttons
Down the middle of the body draw 3 small round buttons.
Step 9: The arm inside
Draw a stage line right across. From it draw a sleeve, then an arm getting thinner up into the glove.
Step 10: Sparkles
Add 4 sparkle stars around the puppet: 4 points joined with curves that dip in.
Step 11: Yellow hair, peach face
Colour the hair, pigtails and sparkles yellow, and the face and arm peach, round the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, red glove
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the whole glove red, round the collar and buttons.
Step 13: Blue buttons, brown stage
Colour the buttons and the sleeve blue, and the stage brown.
