How to Draw a Half-Timbered House
Draw a half-timbered house in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bottom floor.
Step 1: Bottom floor
Low on your paper draw a wide box for the bottom floor of the house, standing on the ground.
Step 2: Top floor
On top of it draw a wider box for the top floor, poking out past the bottom floor both sides.
Tip Old timber houses lean out: each floor is bigger than the one below.
Step 3: The roof
On the top floor draw a pointed roof poking out past both walls, with a thick edge under it.
Step 4: Door and windows
Draw an arched door on the bottom floor, a square window each side, and 3 windows along the top floor.
Step 5: Window panes
Draw a cross in each bottom window, and an upright line down the middle of each top window.
Step 6: Corner beams
Inside each end of both floors, draw a line from the top down to the bottom for a corner beam.
Step 7: Upright beams
Draw thin beams between the top windows, one each side of the door, and one up to the roof point.
Step 8: Slanting beams
On the top floor draw 4 narrow slanting beams, each from an upright beam down to the bottom edge.
Step 9: Chimney and ground
On the right roof slope draw a chimney box. Draw the ground line from the house out to each edge.
Step 10: 2 bushes
Draw a round bumpy bush each side of the house, a little away from the wall, standing on the ground.
Step 11: White walls, sky windows
Colour the walls and the triangle under the roof white, around the windows, door and beams. Colour windows sky blue.
Step 12: Red roof, wooden door
Colour the roof and the chimney red, and the door wood brown.
Step 13: Green bushes, brown beams
Colour the bushes green and every beam dark brown. Go over your lines and your house is done!
