How to Draw Gumbo
Draw gumbo in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
Above the middle draw a wide oval for the top of a big pot, more than a hand across.
Step 2: The pot
Start at the left end of the oval. Draw the side down, round the bottom, up to the right end.
Tip Gumbo is a thick dark stew from Louisiana, served with rice.
Step 3: Ear handles
On each side, under the rim, draw a small ear handle: start on the side, bulge out, stop on it.
Step 4: The stew
Inside the rim draw a second oval a finger inside it, all the way round, for the dark stew.
Step 5: A scoop of rice
On the left of the stew draw a scoop of rice: a bumpy dome, like half a ball.
Step 6: Okra and sausage
Along the front draw 2 little okra stars, and a bigger round sausage slice between them.
Step 7: A shrimp
Behind the sausage draw a shrimp: a fat C, thin at the tail, with a fan and 2 lines across.
Step 8: A ladle
On the right draw a ladle standing in the stew: a long handle up above the rim, hooked on top.
Step 9: Steam
Above the pot draw 2 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 10: The table
Draw a line under the pot from well left to well right, just touching its bottom.
Step 11: White rice, pink shrimp
Go over your lines, then colour the rice white and the shrimp pink.
Step 12: Green okra, red sausage
Colour the okra stars green and the sausage slice red.
Step 13: Slate pot, brown stew
Colour the pot, its rim and the ladle slate grey, then the stew brown around everything.
