How to Draw a Guard

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a guard in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave lots of room above the head for the very tall hat.

  2. Step 2: The face

Below the middle of the head draw 2 big round eyes with shines, a tiny U nose and a smile.

  3. Step 3: Tall furry hat

Above the eyes draw a very tall furry hat, rounded on top. Leave a little forehead showing.

Tip The hat goes way up, taller than the face below it.

  4. Step 4: Neck and tunic

From the chin draw 2 neck lines down to a boxy tunic with round shoulders.

  5. Step 5: Belt and buttons

Draw a belt across the tunic above the hem, with a square buckle. Add 3 buttons down the chest.

  6. Step 6: Long sleeves

Draw a long sleeve from each shoulder down to the wrist and back up to the armpit. Add a cuff.

  7. Step 7: Mitten hands

At the bottom of each arm draw a mitten like an egg end, with a little thumb bump pointing in.

  8. Step 8: Trousers

Start at the tunic's bottom left. Draw 2 long trouser legs with a point between. Stop at the bottom right.

  9. Step 9: Shoes and ground

Under each leg draw a rounded shoe with the toe pointing out. Draw a ground line underneath.

  10. Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the cheeks pink, then the face, neck and hands peach around them. Leave the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Red tunic, yellow buttons

Colour the buttons and buckle yellow. Colour the tunic and sleeves red around them, leaving the belt white.

  12. Step 12: Black hat and trousers

Colour the tall hat, the trousers and the shoes black. Go over your lines and your guard is done.
