How to Draw a Grandpa and Kid
Draw a grandpa and kid in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two heads.
Step 1: Two heads
Draw a big egg head up high on the left. Draw a smaller head lower down on the right.
Tip The small head starts where the big head ends.
Step 2: Grandpa's glasses
On the big head draw 2 round glasses joined by a little bridge. Add dot eyes and a smile.
Tip Keep the glasses in the middle of the face, with room above for a cap.
Step 3: The kid's face
On the small head draw 2 dot eyes and a smile. Draw hair over the top with a fringe.
Step 4: Flat cap
Draw a low, wide cap on grandpa's head with a curved peak. Add a bumpy hair tuft on each side.
Tip The cap is wider than the head and nearly flat on top.
Step 5: Cardigan and T-shirt
Draw 2 short necks. Give grandpa a long cardigan and give the kid a T-shirt with short sleeves.
Step 6: V neck and buttons
Draw a V at grandpa's neck and a line from its point down the middle. Add 2 round buttons.
Tip The V shows the white shirt under the cardigan.
Step 7: Outside arms
Draw grandpa's outside sleeve hanging down with a mitten hand. Draw the kid's outside arm hanging down too.
Tip Arms get a little thinner towards the hand.
Step 8: Holding hands
Draw grandpa's other sleeve reaching down and the kid's other arm reaching across. Close grandpa's hand over the kid's hand.
Tip The two hands must touch: the big hand hides half of the small one.
Step 9: Long trousers
Under the cardigan and under the T-shirt draw long trousers. Put an upside-down V between the legs.
Step 10: Shoes and ground
Draw a round shoe under each trouser leg, toes pointing out. Draw a long ground line under all 4 shoes.
Step 11: Peach skin
Colour both faces and both necks peach. Colour grandpa's 2 hands and the kid's 2 arms peach too.
Step 12: Yellow and grey
Colour the kid's T-shirt yellow. Colour grandpa's 2 hair tufts grey.
Step 13: Teal and blue
Colour grandpa's cardigan and both sleeves teal. Leave his shirt white. Colour the kid's trousers blue.
Step 14: Brown and black
Colour the cap, grandpa's trousers and the kid's hair brown. Colour all 4 shoes black.
Tip Press gently with the black so the shoe outlines still show.
