How to Draw a Gnat
Draw a gnat in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left of your paper, above the middle, draw a big round head. Leave room on the right.
Tip A gnat is tiny, so its head looks big.
Step 2: Huge eye and smile
Inside the head draw one huge round eye with a dot and shine. Add a little smile and cheek.
Step 3: Long feelers
From the top of the head, draw 2 long thin feelers curving up and forward.
Tip Each feeler starts on the head and stops in the air.
Step 4: Humped chest
Start on the back of the head near the top. Draw a round hill chest and stop lower down.
Step 5: Short plump body
Start on the back of the chest. Draw a short plump body out to a soft point and back.
Tip Keep it short: a gnat is a tiny fly.
Step 6: Body stripes
Draw 3 curved ring lines across the body, each from the top edge to the bottom edge.
Step 7: Two round wings
From the top of the chest draw a big round-tipped wing with a middle line. Add another peeking below.
Tip The wings are longer than the body.
Step 8: Three long legs
Start under the chest. Draw 3 thin legs, each out to a bent knee, then down to a flat foot.
Tip Each leg gets thinner from the top down to the foot.
Step 9: The ground
Draw one long straight ground line under all the feet.
Step 10: Sky wings, pink cheek
Colour the 2 wings pale sky blue and the cheek pink. Leave the huge eye white.
Step 11: Grey body
Colour the head, the chest and the striped body grey, around the eye and the cheek.
Step 12: Dark grey legs
Colour the 3 legs dark grey. Your gnat is done!
