How to Draw a Glowworm
Draw a glowworm in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.
Step 1: Egg head
On the left, below the middle, draw an egg standing up for the head, a little taller than wide.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Above the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes, one eye apart. Black dot and shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw an open smile: flat line, U hanging under. Add a round cheek each side.
Step 4: Bumpy grub body
Start behind the head. Draw 5 bumps, each one smaller, go round the tail and stop under the chin.
Tip The tummy line is nearly flat and the tail rests on the ground.
Step 5: Ring lines
Start at each dip between the bumps, draw a curved line down and stop at the tummy: 4 rings.
Step 6: Three little legs
Under the first 3 bumps draw 3 tiny round feet hanging down, with gaps between.
Step 7: Grass stem and ground
Rule a ground line under the feet, from left to right. On the right stand a tall curved grass stem.
Step 8: Crescent moon
In the top right draw a crescent moon: a C shape with 2 pointed tips.
Step 9: Glowing tail and moon
Colour the tail end cream, with a soft yellow half circle of light around it. Colour the moon yellow too.
Tip The tail end is the lantern, past the last ring line.
Step 10: Brown grub
Colour the head, body and legs brown, around the glowing tail. Leave the eyes, mouth and cheeks white.
Step 11: Green stem
Colour the tall grass stem green.
Step 12: Red mouth, pink cheeks
Colour the open mouth red and the cheeks pink. Go over your lines and your glowworm is done!
