How to Draw a Gibbon
Draw a gibbon in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.
Step 1: Big round head
A little above the middle of your paper draw a big round head, a little wider at the cheeks.
Step 2: Pale face
Inside the head draw the face: a smaller round shape a finger in from the head line all round.
Tip The gap all round is the ring of dark fur, like a hood.
Step 3: Two big eyes
A little above the middle of the face draw 2 big round eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Nose and smile
Between the eyes draw a black triangle nose. From the left eye swing a U smile up to the right.
Step 5: Small round ears
On each side of the head, level with the eyes, draw a small C ear sticking out.
Tip Gibbon ears are small: they just peek out of the fur.
Step 6: The body
Start under the left cheek. Draw a round pear body hanging down, and stop under the right cheek.
Tip Narrower than the head, thin at the neck.
Step 7: The branch
Near the top draw a long, thick branch with round ends. Add a twig, a knot and 2 bark lines.
Step 8: Two long arms
Start on the side. Draw a long arm up to a thin wrist under the branch, back to the head.
Step 9: Fists on the branch
Above each arm draw a fist: from the branch, over the top, back down. Add 2 finger lines on each.
Tip The fists wrap right over the branch.
Step 10: Legs and feet
Draw each leg from the tummy, getting thinner, to a round foot and back. Add 2 toe lines on each.
Step 11: Cream face
Colour the face and the inside of each ear cream. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Wood branch
Colour the branch and its twig wood brown.
Step 13: Colour the fur slate
Colour the head around the face, the ears, body, arms, fists, legs and feet slate grey. Go over your lines.
