How to Draw a Plateosaurus
Draw a plateosaurus in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: small head.
Step 1: Small head
Top left, draw a small egg on its side. Start at the bottom and stop short, leaving a gap.
Tip Leave lots of room below for the long neck and the big body.
Step 2: Eye and smile
Draw a big round eye with a black dot near the back. Add a nostril dot and a smile.
Step 3: Long neck
From the 2 ends of the gap draw 2 lines down, getting wider apart. The back one slopes right.
Tip The neck is longer than the head is wide.
Step 4: Back and tail
Carry on from the back neck line. Draw along the back, out to the tail tip and back underneath.
Tip Think carrot: the tail is fat at the body and thin at the tip.
Step 5: Chest and tummy
Carry on from the front neck line. Draw one bowed curve down the chest and tummy. Stop at the tail.
Step 6: Fat thigh
Draw one big egg on the hip for the thigh, fat end up, narrow end pointing down and forward.
Tip Rub out the bit of tummy line inside the thigh.
Step 7: Leg and foot
From the thigh's narrow end draw a shin slanting back to the ankle, then a foot with 3 toes.
Step 8: Far leg and ground
Start on the tummy behind the thigh. Draw the far leg down to a foot and back. Add the ground.
Tip A plateosaurus walked on its 2 back legs.
Step 9: Arm and hand
From the chest draw a short arm bending forward at the elbow. End it in 3 pointy claws.
Step 10: Tummy patch
Start on the chest line above the arm. Draw a bowed curve down the tummy, stopping on the thigh.
Step 11: Back spots
Draw 3 small ovals in a row on the back, just under the back line.
Step 12: Cream tummy
Go over your lines. Colour the tummy patch cream.
Step 13: Colour the body
Colour the head, neck, body, tail, legs and arm light brown, around the tummy and spots. Leave the eye white.
Step 14: Dark spots
Colour the 3 spots dark brown. Your plateosaurus is done!
