How to Draw a Garden Snake
Draw a garden snake in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
In the top left of your paper draw a big round head like an egg on its side.
Tip A snake's head is big, about a third as tall as the whole snake.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 3: Nostrils and smile
Under the eyes dot 2 tiny nostrils. Start under the left eye, draw a wide smile, stop under the right.
Step 4: Forked tongue
From the middle of the smile draw a thin tongue poking straight down. Split the end into 2 points.
Step 5: Long body
From the chin draw a tube right, round a big loop, left to a point. Come back along the outside.
Tip No lumps and no kinks: 2 smooth lines side by side.
Step 6: Belly line
Start under the chin. Draw a line along the inside edge, meeting that edge at the bottom of the bend.
Step 7: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a straight ground line under the snake, stopping near the right edge.
Step 8: Grass tuft
Near the right end of the ground line, start on the line. Draw 3 short grass blades growing up.
Step 9: Back stripe
From the head draw a thin stripe down the back, ending in a point low on the loop.
Tip Like a racing stripe, right in the middle of the green.
Step 10: Cream belly
Colour the belly strip cream.
Step 11: Yellow stripe, red tongue
Colour the stripe yellow and the tongue red.
Step 12: Green garden snake
Go over your lines. Colour the head and body green around the belly and stripe, leaving the eyes white.
