How to Draw a Baby Phoenix

Draw a baby phoenix in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, draw a big round head, a little wider at the cheeks.
Tip Leave room above for the flame crest.
Step 2: Round tummy
Under the head, draw a round tummy, a little narrower than the head.
Tip A baby bird is mostly head.
Step 3: Big eyes
Halfway down the head, draw 2 big oval eyes. Add a black dot and a white shine in each.
Step 4: Little beak
Between the eyes, a little lower, draw a small beak with a round top and a pointed bottom.
Step 5: Flame crest
On top of the head, draw 3 curly flame feathers, the middle one tallest. Each grows from the head.
Tip Give each flame a pointed tip that flicks to one side.
Step 6: Fluffy bib
On the tummy, draw a bib: 3 fluffy bumps along the top and a round bottom.
Step 7: Flame wings
On each side of the tummy, draw a small wing pointing out, with a round top and a pointed tip.
Tip Keep the wings short so the tail has room.
Step 8: Legs and toes
Under the tummy, draw 2 short legs. Under each leg, draw 3 round toes side by side.
Tip The middle toe is a little taller.
Step 9: Ground line
Start at the left. Draw a ground line under the toes. Stop at the right.
Step 10: Flame tail
Low on the right of the tummy, draw 3 long flame feathers fanning out: one up, one across, one low.
Tip All 3 feathers grow from the same spot, below the wing.
Step 11: Inner flames
Inside each tail feather, draw a smaller flame with a pointed tip.
Step 12: Yellow flames
Colour the bib, the beak and the 3 inner tail flames yellow.
Tip Colour the lightest colour first.
Step 13: Orange fire
Colour the 3 crest flames, the wings, the legs, the feet and the 3 tail feathers orange, around the yellow.
Step 14: Red chick
Colour the head and the tummy red, around the bib and the beak. Leave the eyes white.
