How to Draw an Elf Owl

Draw an elf owl in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Step 1: Round head
Near the top of your paper draw a big soft oval, wider than tall, flatter at the chin.
Tip No ear tufts: an elf owl's head is smooth and round.
Step 2: Two huge eyes
Across the middle of the head draw 2 huge circle eyes with big black dots and white shines.
Step 3: Brows, beak and smile
Draw a rainbow brow over each eye, from one edge round to the other. Add a beak and smile below.
Step 4: Plump body
Start under the left cheek. Draw a big C down to the bottom middle. Do the right so they meet.
Step 5: Folded wings
Start under the head on each side. Draw a wing curve down with 2 soft bumps. Stop on the body.
Step 6: Feathery tummy
Between the wings draw 3 little U's side by side, then 2 below in the gaps.
Step 7: Cactus top
Start low on the left, draw a fat cactus side up and round to the owl. Same on the right.
Step 8: Two feet
Under each eye draw a foot: start on the tummy, come down over the cactus top, draw 3 round toes.
Step 9: Ground and rocks
Draw a ground line across the bottom. Start on it and draw a round rock near each end.
Step 10: Cactus ribs
Under the feet draw 2 long lines down the cactus. Stop on the ground.
Step 11: Crescent moon
In the top right corner draw a small crescent moon like a C. Elf owls come out at night.
Step 12: Yellow eyes and feet
Colour the eyes yellow around the black dots, and the beak, feet and moon. Leave the brows white.
Step 13: Tan tummy, grey rocks
Colour the tummy between the wings tan. Colour the rocks grey.
Step 14: Green cactus, brown owl
Colour the cactus green, around the feet. Colour the head and wings brown, around the eyes, brows and beak.
