How to Draw the Enormous Turnip
Draw the enormous turnip in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: giant turnip.
Step 1: Giant turnip
Draw a long ground line. From it, on the left, draw a big dome and back down to the line.
Tip Add a curved line across the dome, from side to side.
Step 2: Three big leaves
From the top of the dome draw 3 big leaves on stalks, back to the dome. Add leaf lines.
Tip One leaf leans left, one stands up and one leans right.
Step 3: Farmer's head
Right of the leaves draw an egg head. On its left side draw 2 oval eyes and a smile.
Tip Put a black dot in each eye. Add a small ear on the right side of the head.
Step 4: Straw hat
Across the top of the head draw a long thin oval brim. Draw a dome on top of it.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the hat.
Step 5: Leaning shirt
Under the head draw a long shirt leaning back to the right, with round shoulders and a flat bottom edge.
Step 6: Pulling arms
From the shoulder draw 2 long arms reaching out to the nearest leaf. End each arm in a round fist.
Tip The near arm bends at the elbow. Only a strip of the far arm shows above it. Draw 2 finger lines on the lower fist.
Step 7: Legs and boots
Under the shirt draw 2 legs spread wide. Put a boot on each foot, flat on the ground line.
Tip Both boots point at the turnip.
Step 8: The child's head
Behind the farmer draw a smaller egg head with 2 oval eyes, a smile and a cap of hair.
Tip The child is lower down than the farmer, and leans back the same way.
Step 9: Child's top and arms
Draw a small leaning top under the head. Draw 2 arms out to 2 fists on the farmer's shirt.
Tip Draw 2 finger lines on the lower fist. Rub out the shirt line inside the fists.
Step 10: Child's legs
Under the top draw 2 legs spread wide, each with a shoe flat on the ground line.
Step 11: Peach and yellow
Colour the 2 faces and the 4 fists peach. Colour the straw hat and the child's top yellow.
Step 12: Red and blue
Colour the farmer's shirt and sleeves red. Colour both pairs of trousers blue.
Step 13: Purple and green
Colour the top of the turnip purple and leave the rest white. Colour the 3 leaves green.
Step 14: Brown boots and soil
Colour the boots, shoes and hair brown. Colour the soil light brown, down to the bottom of the paper.
