How to Draw a Crack
Draw a crack in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the wall.
Step 1: The wall
Draw a big box for the wall: a long flat top, 2 straight sides and a flat bottom.
Tip Make it nearly as tall as it is wide.
Step 2: Zigzag down
Start on the top edge, left of the middle. Zigzag down: left, right, left, right. Stop at a sharp point.
Tip Make each zig a different length. Real cracks are never neat.
Step 3: Zigzag back up
From the point, zigzag back up beside your first line, getting wider. Stop on the top edge.
Tip A crack is thin at the tip and wide where it starts.
Step 4: Side cracks
On 3 corners of the crack, draw a thin pointed spike. Start and stop on the crack.
Tip Point the spikes down and out, and make each one a different length.
Step 5: Brick rows
Draw 3 flat lines across the wall, from side to side. Lift your pencil over the crack.
Tip Space them evenly to make 4 rows.
Step 6: Top bricks
In the top 2 rows draw short lines from row to row. Each row gets 2.
Tip Bricks overlap: never put a line straight under another one.
Step 7: Bottom bricks
Do the same in the bottom 2 rows: 2 short lines in each row.
Step 8: The ground
Along the bottom of the wall, draw a long ground line from far left to far right.
Step 9: Green grass
Colour the ground under the line green, all the way down.
Step 10: Red bricks
Colour all the bricks red, right up to the crack. Leave the crack white for now.
Step 11: Black crack
Go over your lines and colour the crack and its 3 spikes black. You're done!
