How to Draw an English Mastiff

Draw an English mastiff in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: broad head.

Step 1: Broad head
Near the top, draw a big wide head with a flat top and heavy round cheeks.
Tip A mastiff's head is wider than it is tall.
Step 2: Small folded ears
On each top corner of the head, draw a small ear folding over and hanging beside the face.
Tip Keep the ears small: big ears would make a different dog.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes wide apart. Add black dots with shines.
Step 4: Wrinkly brow
On the forehead between the ears, draw 2 short rainbow wrinkles, one above the other.
Step 5: Square muzzle
Under the eyes, draw a wide square muzzle with 2 droopy jowls hanging below the chin. Add a black nose.
Step 6: Smile and tongue
From the nose, draw a short line down to a w smile. Hang a small U tongue under it.
Step 7: Big body
Start behind each cheek. Draw a line curving out and down to the bottom for a big wide body.
Tip Make the body wider than the head: this is a very heavy dog.
Step 8: Thick front legs
Start under the jaw. Draw each thick leg down, round a paw, and stop in the middle. Add toes.
Step 9: Haunches and back paws
At each bottom corner, draw a hill paw with 2 toes. Curve a haunch from the side down to it.
Step 10: Thick tail
Start at the right hip. Draw a thick tail curving down to a point on the ground.
Step 11: The ground
Draw a long ground line under all 4 paws and the tail.
Step 12: Fawn fur
Colour the fur light brown, around the muzzle and the ears. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Pink tongue
Colour the tongue pink.
Step 14: Dark mask and ears
Colour the muzzle and both ears dark grey, around the black nose and the pink tongue. Go over your lines.
