How to Draw a Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Draw a chesapeake bay retriever in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big broad head.
Step 1: Big broad head
Near the top of your paper draw a big soft head, wider than tall, like a rounded square.
Tip Make it big: almost half of the drawing. Leave room below.
Step 2: Small flop ears
Start high on the head's left. Draw a small ear hanging down to the cheek. Same on the right.
Tip These ears are short: they stop beside the snout.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
Above the middle of the head draw 2 egg eyes a gap apart. Add a black dot and shine.
Step 4: Snout and nose
Under the eyes draw a wide oval snout. Sit a rounded triangle nose on top and colour it black.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose draw a short line down, then a w smile out to each side. Add a U tongue.
Step 6: Strong body
Start under each cheek. Draw a big C down to near the bottom. Join the ends with a sagging line.
Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.
Step 7: Front legs
From under the chin, draw 2 legs down to round paws, with a gap between them. Add toe lines.
Tip Rub out the body line inside the legs.
Step 8: Back paws
Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner of the body. Add 2 toe lines on each.
Step 9: Thick tail
Start behind the right back paw. Draw a thick tail up and out, thinner at its round tip.
Step 10: Wavy coat
Start on each side line of the body. Draw 2 short wavy lines in, and stop before the leg.
Tip This dog has thick wavy fur that keeps it dry in cold water.
Step 11: The ground
Start at the left. Draw a long line under all 4 paws across to the right.
Step 12: Tan snout, pink tongue
Colour the snout tan and the tongue pink.
Step 13: Amber eyes
Colour a yellow ring round each black dot.
Tip Leave the rest of each eye white.
Step 14: Brown fur
Colour all the fur brown: the head, ears, body, legs, paws and tail. Go around the snout and eyes.
