How to Draw an Energy Pyramid

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an energy pyramid in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a big triangle.

Print

  1. Step 1: A big triangle

Draw a big triangle filling your paper: a point at the top and a long flat bottom.

  2. Step 2: 4 levels

Draw 3 lines across to make 4 levels. Start each on the left slope and stop on the right slope.

Tip Leave the top level a little taller than the others.

  3. Step 3: Grass at the bottom

In the bottom level draw 3 grass tufts: 5 pointy blades each. Start and stop on the bottom line.

Tip Plants go at the bottom because they make the food.

  4. Step 4: Two rabbits

In the next level up draw 2 rabbits sitting on the line: a round back and a round head each.

  5. Step 5: Ears and tails

Give each rabbit 2 long ears, a dot eye and a round fluffy tail.

  6. Step 6: A wavy snake

In the third level draw a long wavy snake lying on the line. Make its tail thin.

Tip Fewer animals fit as you go up: 2 rabbits, then 1 snake.

  7. Step 7: Snake head

Where the snake lifts up on the left, draw an oval head with a dot eye.

  8. Step 8: An owl on top

In the top level draw an egg-shaped owl standing on the line, with 2 small ear points.

Tip Only 1 hunter fits at the very top.

  9. Step 9: Owl face

Draw 2 big round eyes with black dots, a small pointy beak, and a curved wing line on each side.

  10. Step 10: Sky blue levels

Go over your lines. Colour all 4 levels sky blue, around every picture.

  11. Step 11: Grey and yellow

Colour the 2 rabbits grey, but leave their tails white. Colour the owl's beak yellow.

  12. Step 12: Green

Colour the 3 grass tufts and the snake green.

  13. Step 13: Brown owl

Colour the owl brown, around its beak. Leave its eyes white. Your energy pyramid is done!
