How to Draw a Montana Map
Draw a montana map in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top edge.
Step 1: The top edge
Start high on the left. Draw a long straight line to the right. Stop near the right side.
Tip Montana is long and low. Use a ruler if you like.
Step 2: The right side
From the right end, draw a straight line down. Stop when it is half as long as the top.
Step 3: The bottom edge
Carry on from there. Draw a straight line to the left. Stop a little past the middle.
Step 4: The low corner
Carry on from there. Add a tiny step down, then a bumpy line left. Stop at a low point.
Step 5: The mountain edge
From the low point, wiggle a line up to the left. Make one dip near the end, then stop.
Tip Tall mountains make this wiggly edge.
Step 6: The long slant
Carry on up, then step left. Slant a bumpy line up to the left. Stop right below your start.
Step 7: Close the map
Carry on from there. Draw a straight line up. Join the start of your top line.
Step 8: The capital star
A third of the way across, halfway down, draw a star for the capital city, Helena.
Tip On a map, a star shows the capital city.
Step 9: Two mountains
On the left, draw 2 triangle mountains: a big one high up, a smaller one lower down.
Tip These are the Rocky Mountains. The name Montana means mountain.
Step 10: Green land
Go over your lines. Colour all the land green, around the star and the 2 mountains.
Step 11: Brown and red
Colour the 2 mountains brown and the star red. Your map of Montana is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a montana map, drawn by you.
