How to Draw a Frog Life Cycle

13 steps · Tricky · about 10 min

Draw a frog life cycle in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: frog eggs.

Print

  1. Step 1: Frog eggs

At the top draw a clump of 7 round eggs squashed together: 3 on top and 4 underneath.

Tip Frog eggs are a clump of jelly balls.

  2. Step 2: Dots in the eggs

Colour a small black dot in the middle of every egg: that is the baby tadpole growing inside.

  3. Step 3: The tadpole

On the right draw the tadpole: a round ball body with one big eye and a tiny smile.

Tip A tadpole is just a head with a tail: no legs yet.

  4. Step 4: Tadpole tail

From the tadpole's back draw a wavy tail, wide at the body and thinning to a soft round tip.

  5. Step 5: The froglet

At the bottom draw the froglet: a bean body on its side with a big eye and a smile.

Tip A froglet is in between: a tadpole body growing legs.

  6. Step 6: Froglet tail and legs

From the froglet's back draw a tail out to a point, with fins above and below. Add 2 bean legs.

Tip The 2 fins meet just past the tail tip. Each leg ends in a round foot.

  7. Step 7: The grown frog

On the left draw a frog head with a flat top, 2 big eyes on the corners, and a smile.

Tip The eyes sit on top like headlights, with black dots and shines.

  8. Step 8: Frog body and arms

Start under the left cheek. Draw a fat tummy round a flat bottom, stopping under the right cheek. Add arms.

Tip Add a big oval belly patch, and bent arms with round fingers.

  9. Step 9: Frog legs and feet

On each side of the frog draw a fat bean back leg, and a foot with 3 round toes.

  10. Step 10: Arrows round the circle

Between each picture and the next draw a curved arrow going clockwise, with a little V head on the end.

Tip Egg, tadpole, froglet, frog: then the frog lays new eggs and it starts again.

  11. Step 11: Cream belly, sky fin

Colour the frog's belly patch cream. Colour the froglet's fin and the egg jelly around the dots sky blue.

  12. Step 12: Green tadpole and froglet

Colour the tadpole and the froglet leaf green: bodies, tails and legs, leaving their eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Green frog

Colour the frog leaf green: head, tummy around the belly patch, arms, legs and feet, leaving the eyes white.
