How to Draw an Elephant Walking
Draw an elephant walking in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a big round head with soft cheeks. Leave lots of room on the right.
Tip A big head makes it cute: about as big as the body is deep.
Step 2: Eyes and trunk
Draw 2 big dot eyes. Under them draw a thick trunk hanging past the chin, curling up. Add 3 wrinkles.
Tip The trunk is thick at the top and thinner at the tip.
Step 3: Big ears and tusks
On each side of the head, hang a huge ear with a fan inside, and a tusk under the chin.
Tip The ears hang down past the chin, like floppy fans.
Step 4: The body
Start behind the ear. Draw a big bean body to the right, round the bottom. Stop under the cheek.
Tip No neck: the head sits right on the shoulders.
Step 5: The ground
Draw a long ground line low down, from near the left edge to near the right edge.
Step 6: Two walking legs
Draw a thick leg under the chest leaning forward, and one under the bottom leaning back, down to the ground.
Tip Elephant legs are tree trunks: straight, thick and round-footed.
Step 7: The far legs
Behind each leg, draw a thinner far leg peeking out, leaning the other way.
Tip The far legs lean the opposite way: that makes it walk.
Step 8: The tail
From the top of the bottom, draw a thin tail swinging out and down. End it in a leaf-shaped tuft.
Tip Leave a gap between the tail and the body.
Step 9: Colour the ear insides
Colour the ear insides peach.
Step 10: Colour it grey
Colour the elephant grey, around the ear insides. Leave the eyes and tusks white.
Step 11: Colour the hair
Colour the tail hair slate grey. Your elephant is done!
