How to Draw a Dogfish
Draw a dogfish in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and nose.
Step 1: Head and nose
Draw a sideways V with a soft round point for the head. Start high and stop underneath.
Tip A dogfish has a long nose with a rounded tip.
Step 2: One big eye
Behind the nose draw 1 big round eye. Fill it mostly black and add 2 white shines.
Step 3: Back and first fin
Start at the top of the head. Draw the back, then up and over a fin. Stop just past it.
Tip The fin leans back, like a little sail.
Step 4: Second small fin
Start where you stopped. Draw a smaller fin, then carry the back down to the tail.
Tip Two fins on the back, the second one smaller.
Step 5: Long tail
Start at the end of the back. Draw a long top tip, a notch, and a short bottom tip back.
Tip The top tip is longer than the bottom one.
Step 6: Slim tummy
Start at the chin. Draw 1 long gentle curve under the body and stop at the tail.
Tip Keep the body long and slim, like a torpedo.
Step 7: Smile and gills
Start under the nose and draw a smile back to under the eye. Add 3 gill curves behind the eye.
Step 8: Side stripe
Start at the smile corner. Draw 1 long gentle line along the body. Stop on the tummy near the tail.
Tip This line is where the sandy top meets the pale tummy.
Step 9: Side fin
From the stripe behind the gills, sweep a blade fin back past the tummy, then up to the stripe.
Tip Rub out the bits of tummy line and stripe inside the fin.
Step 10: Five spots
Draw 5 small oval spots along the side, above the stripe.
Tip Spread them out so no two sit side by side.
Step 11: Cream tummy
Colour the tummy and chin under the stripe cream.
Step 12: Sandy top
Colour everything above the stripe sandy tan, fins and tail too, around the spots. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Brown spots
Colour the 5 spots brown. Go over your lines and your dogfish is done!
