How to Draw a Desk Lamp
Draw a desk lamp in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cone shade.
Step 1: The cone shade
Near the top left draw a tilted cone: a short flat top and 2 sides spreading to a wide bottom.
Tip Tip the wide end down and left. That is where the light comes out.
Step 2: Rim and bulb
Along the wide end draw a bulging rim curve. Add a little bulb circle hanging out of the middle.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the shade draw 2 egg eyes, inside the edges. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a little oval cheek under each eye, apart from the smile.
Step 5: Upper arm
Draw a small circle on the shade's top corner. From it draw a straight arm down right to another circle.
Tip The arm is 2 lines a finger apart.
Step 6: Lower arm
From the elbow draw another straight arm sloping down and a little left, stopping a hand above the bottom.
Step 7: The heavy base
Put a flat oval where the arm lands. From a hand left, draw a wide dome, stopping a hand right.
Step 8: The foot
From each end of the dome draw a short line down. Join them with a flat bottom line.
Step 9: Light, sparkles and desk
Draw 3 short light lines fanning out of the shade, 3 sparkles, and a long desk line under the base.
Step 10: Yellow bulb, pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the bulb yellow and the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Grey arms
Colour the arms, the hinge, the elbow and the cap grey.
Step 12: Green shade and base
Colour the shade and base green, going around the cheeks, the bulb and the grey parts. Leave the eyes white.
