How to Draw a Damselfly
Draw a damselfly in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left of your paper, below the middle, draw an egg lying on its side. Leave the right free.
Tip A damselfly is mostly one long thin body.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Near the sides of the head draw 2 big egg eyes with a gap between. Add black dots.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw an open smile, a flat line over a U. Add an oval cheek past each end.
Step 4: A little chest
On the right side of the head draw a small round ball peeking out from behind it.
Step 5: A needle body
From the chest draw a long thin tube out to the right, almost to the edge, with a round end.
Tip As thin as a needle: 2 lines close together.
Step 6: Body rings
Across the thin body draw 6 short lines, evenly spaced from the chest to the tail.
Step 7: Folded wings
From the chest draw a long narrow leaf rising back over the body. Add a second just under it.
Tip A damselfly folds its wings together when it rests.
Step 8: Wing veins
Down the middle of each wing draw 1 thin line from the chest toward the round end.
Step 9: A twig
Under the damselfly draw a long twig, 2 gently wavy lines side by side, joined with round ends.
Step 10: Three legs
From under the chest draw 3 thin bent legs down to the twig, each with a tiny foot on it.
Step 11: Sky wings, pink cheeks
Colour the 2 folded wings light sky blue and the 2 cheeks pink.
Step 12: Blue body, red mouth
Colour the head, chest and body blue, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth. Colour the mouth red.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Brown twig, grey legs
Colour the twig brown and the 3 legs dark grey. Go over your lines and your damselfly is done!
