How to Draw a Dahlia
Draw a dahlia in 12 steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw a circle as big as a coin.
Step 2: Eight short petals
Start on the circle and draw a short pointed petal, stopping back on the circle. Draw 8 all round.
Tip Each petal is about as long as the middle is wide.
Step 3: Twelve longer petals
Behind those, draw 12 longer petals. Start on one short petal, point out through the gap, stop on the next.
Step 4: Twelve long petals
Draw a third ring of 12 petals: start on a petal, point out through the gap, stop on the next.
Step 5: The stem
Start under the bottom petal. Draw a gently curved line down to near the bottom. Add another beside it.
Tip Let the 2 lines spread a little apart as they go down.
Step 6: Two leaves
A thumb below the flower, draw a big fat leaf pointing left from the stem. Draw another on the right.
Step 7: Leaf veins
From the stem, draw one curved vein out along the middle of each leaf, stopping short of the tip.
Step 8: The ground
Start left of the leaves. Draw a soft sagging line across the stem bottom, past the right leaf.
Step 9: Grass
From the ground line at each side of the stem, flick 2 little grass blades up.
Step 10: Yellow middle
Go over your lines, then colour the middle yellow.
Step 11: Pink petals
Colour all 3 rings of petals pink, around the yellow middle.
Step 12: Green stem and leaves
Colour the stem and both leaves green, and your dahlia is in bloom!
