How to Draw a Cow and Calf

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a cow and calf in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cow's head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The cow's head

Near the top, left of the middle, draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round corners.

Tip Leave room below it for the calf.

  2. Step 2: Horns and ears

On top draw 2 short curved horns. On each side draw a leaf ear sticking out.

  3. Step 3: The cow's eyes

On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nostrils

Under the eyes draw a big egg snout poking past the head. Add 2 nostrils and a smile.

  5. Step 5: A long back

Draw the ground. Start on the head, draw a long back and stop half way down her bottom.

Tip The line dips down a short neck, then runs almost flat.

  6. Step 6: Legs and tummy

From the chin, draw the chest, a front leg, the tummy and a back leg up to her bottom.

Tip Each leg gets thinner on the way down and ends in a hoof with a line across.

  7. Step 7: Far legs and tail

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out. Add a thin tail ending in a leaf tuft.

  8. Step 8: The calf's head

Low on the left, draw a small round head for the calf, with 2 floppy leaf ears.

Tip A calf has no horns yet.

  9. Step 9: The calf's face

Give the calf 2 big eyes with black dots, a small egg snout, 2 nostrils and a smile.

  10. Step 10: The calf's body

Start on the calf's head. Draw a short back, then a front leg, tummy and back leg to meet it.

Tip Calf legs are long and thin, with knobbly knees.

  11. Step 11: Long legs and tail

Draw 2 more long legs leaning forward, one under the chin and one under the tummy. Add a short tail.

Tip The tail ends in a little leaf tuft.

  12. Step 12: Patches

Draw 3 wobbly patches on the cow and 1 on the calf's back. Keep them inside the bodies.

  13. Step 13: Pink and sand

Colour both snouts pink. Colour the horns and the 2 tail tufts sand. Leave the rest white.

  14. Step 14: Grey hooves, black patches

Colour all 8 hooves dark grey and the patches black. Your cow and calf are done!
