How to Draw a Cormorant
Draw a cormorant in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: small round head.
Step 1: Small round head
Near the top left of your paper draw a small round head. Leave lots of room under it.
Step 2: Beak and throat patch
From the front of the head draw a long hooked beak. Add a small patch where it meets the head.
Step 3: One big eye
A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Long neck
Start at the chin and the back of the head. Draw 2 long S lines down, ending 2 heads below.
Tip The cormorant's neck is long and thin, like a snake.
Step 5: Plump body
Start at the bottom of the back neck line. Draw a big oval body, ending at the front neck line.
Step 6: Far wing up
From the top of the body draw a long thin wing curving up and back, with a round tip.
Tip Cormorants hold both wings out to dry.
Step 7: Near wing spread
From the neck draw a big wing up to a round tip, then 3 soft bumps down to the rump.
Tip Add 2 short feather lines, and rub out the far wing's lines inside the big wing.
Step 8: Short tail
At the back of the rump draw a short pointed tail sticking out and down.
Step 9: Two webbed feet
Under the tummy draw 2 short legs, each ending in a flat webbed foot with 3 round toes.
Step 10: Rock and water
Start on the left. Draw a big rock hump under the feet, ending on the right. Add wavy water below.
Step 11: Yellow and light grey
Colour the throat patch yellow. Colour the beak, far wing and rock light grey.
Step 12: Blue water
Colour the water blue, all the way across your paper.
Step 13: Dark grey cormorant
Colour the head, neck, body, near wing, tail and feet dark grey around the patch. Leave the eye white.
