How to Draw a Net of a Cone
Draw a net of a cone in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: left edge.
Step 1: Left edge
Start near the top of your paper. Draw a long straight line slanting down to the left.
Tip The top point will be the tip of the cone.
Step 2: Right edge
From the same top point draw a line slanting down to the right, just as long.
Tip Both edges must be the same length, because they meet when the cone rolls up.
Step 3: Curved edge
Start at the end of the left line. Draw a big smile curve across to the right line's end.
Tip Keep the curve the same distance from the top point all the way, like a slice of a circle.
Step 4: Base circle
Under the curve draw a round circle that just touches the lowest part of the curve.
Tip This is the flat bottom of the cone. The curved edge wraps all the way round it.
Step 5: Little cone sides
On the right, start low, draw up to a point and back down. Stop level with the start.
Step 6: Cone bottom
Start at the left foot of the V. Draw a shallow smile curve across to the right foot.
Step 7: Table line
Under the cone draw a flat line for the table, a little wider than the cone.
Step 8: Yellow slice
Colour the big slice yellow. It rolls up to make the curved side of the cone.
Step 9: Yellow cone
Colour the little cone yellow too, to match the slice.
Step 10: Blue circle
Colour the circle blue. It is the flat bottom, hidden under the cone. Go over your lines.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a net of a cone, drawn by you.
