How to Draw a Computer Chip
Draw a computer chip in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the board.
Step 1: The board
Draw a big square with soft corners, filling most of your paper. This is the circuit board.
Step 2: The chip
In the middle of the board draw a smaller square with sharp corners for the chip.
Tip Leave a wide gap all the way round it.
Step 3: The metal lid
Inside the chip draw a smaller square with soft corners. Leave a rim all the way round.
Step 4: Corner dot
In the top left corner of the rim draw a small round dot. It marks the first pin.
Step 5: Side pins
Start on the left edge of the chip. Draw 5 small box pins, each stopping on the edge. Repeat right.
Tip Each pin is a tiny box. Space them evenly.
Step 6: Top and bottom pins
Start on the top edge and draw 5 box pins, each stopping on the edge. Repeat along the bottom.
Tip That makes 20 pins, 5 on every side.
Step 7: Side wires
From 2 pins on each side draw a straight wire out to a small round pad.
Tip Skip a pin between them.
Step 8: Corner wires
From each corner pin on the top and bottom, draw a wire that bends sideways to a round pad.
Step 9: Yellow pins
Go over your lines. Colour all 20 pins yellow, like shiny metal.
Step 10: Pads and lid
Colour the 8 round pads yellow. Colour the lid and the corner dot light grey.
Tip Light colours go on first.
Step 11: Green board
Colour the board green, going around the chip, the pins and the pads.
Tip Leave the rim of the chip white for now.
Step 12: Dark chip
Colour the rim of the chip dark grey, around the lid and the dot. Your computer chip is done!
